The climb of Les Deux Alpes by bicycle from the Chambon dam
The Les Deux Alpes climb leads to the largest resort in the Oisans, at 1,650 m. Since the Lake Chambon, the road (D213) climbs in regular switchbacks through the forest: 9.5 km and 621 m of elevation gain An average gradient of 6.5 %. Wide and perfectly surfaced, it’s a comfortable climb where you can get into a good rhythm, with lovely views of the lake and the Grandes Rousses.
Difficulty
The slope is regular, around 6–8 %, with a transition to 11 % on the first hairpins. Nothing tricky: the wide road and spotless tarmac make it a climb accessible to cyclists of all levels, ideal for testing oneself over a reasonable distance.
An iconic Tour de France finish
The Les Deux Alpes welcomed legendary arrivals of the Tour de France, including the 1998 stage won by Marco Pantani after a rainy Galibier. A lively resort in both summer and winter, with its skiable glacier, it makes a great destination from Bourg-d’Oisans, complementing Alpe d’Huez just opposite.
